TWOOLS 13

Dates 01 June 2011 to 04 June 2011

Lovers of dance, spectacle, theatre and entertainment cannot ignore the new TWOOLS, announces the flyer for edition 13 of TWOOLS.

The many fans of the TWOOLS series, with its festival-like atmosphere, will once again see a special collaboration by Ed Wubbe this year. The artistic director and his ensemble of dancers are teaming up with singer and musician Ellen ten Damme, who added circus elements to her own latest programme. Wubbe and Ten Damme find each other in their shared love for this form of entertainment and the movement idiom of circus. For Ten Damme's followers, it is also a foretaste of her new Dutch-language song lyrics.

A touching duet about the vulnerability and powerlessness of love

Miriam van der Linden over 'Vuurvogel'

The 'dance festival in and for Rotterdam', as Scapino Ballet Rotterdam describes TWOOLS13, once again brings together a multitude of styles and dance languages in roughly ten minutes. Resident choreographer Marco Goecke will conclude his final season with a moving Firebird pas de deux to music by Stravinsky.

Dance critic Mirjam van der Linden of De Volkskrant is impressed: "Chiara Mezzadari and Mitchell-lee van Rooij know how to transform the combination of the typical animal-like fluttering of the hands, which are like crossed wings, and the precisely mechanical angularity of other movements into a touching duet about the vulnerability and powerlessness of love.

Alessandro Perreira returns after TWOOLS12 - At The Opera with Crossing Silence. Heidi Vierthaler created the dance piece Shin Bun Shi with dancers Bryndis Brynjolfsdottir, Romanna Delauw, Sonoko Kamimura, Nicole Kohlmann and Yosuke Kusano, in which Yafit Taranto's video plays a striking role. Scapino dancer Min Li presents herself for the first time as a dance theatre maker with Good Evening. And Felix Landerer's Fake One is a clear and visual quartet for three men and a woman.

This year, the foyer of the Rotterdamse Schouwburg will be hosting the TWOOLS Unlimited Podium every performance night, with free performances by up-and-coming Rotterdam talent.
