Annabel Lopez Ochoa
Annabelle Lopez Ochoa (Belgium) was educated at the Municipal Institute of Ballet in Antwerp. She previously danced in Germany at B.W.Gung tanztheater in Ulm and the Heidelberger Stadttheater. In the Netherlands she started 1993 at Djazzex modern jazz dance company. From 1997 to 2003 she danced with Scapino Ballet Rotterdam.
Lopez Ochoa created her first choreography Symbiosis for the Scapino Workshop in 1997. This choreography, well received by the press, was subsequently included in the repertoire of the Rotterdam Dance Academy. In 1999 she choreographed her second piece for Scapino's workshop Made in Rotterdam >In:signs//. For TWOOLS 2 in 2000 she created the duet Graffiti, which in 2002 became part of the travel program TWOOLS on the road.
In 2001 she won third prize at the Hannover Wettbewerb with the duet Clair/Obscur. In the same year she made Replay for Djazzex Productions, which premiered at the Holland Dance Festival. With this choreography she won the first and the audience prize in 2002 during the 3rd International Competition for Choreographers in Bornem, Belgium. In 2002 she choreographed the plays Prefab Four by Orkater, Cloaca by Het Toneel Speelt and Festen by De Ploeg, all directed by Willem van de Sande Bakhuyzen. She made the choreography Before after for the workshop of Dutch National Ballet. Before after was included in the repertoire of Het Nationale ballet and selected for the Danspassies 2 festival, which was shown in various theaters in the Netherlands.
In 2003 she again made a choreography for Scapino's TWOOLS 5, Zip Zap Zoef and she makes Together alone for Danswerkplaats Amsterdam (DWA).
She will make a longer adaptation of the choreography >In:signs// from 1999 for the Stedelijk Institute for Ballet in Antwerp. In September 2003 her new choreography for Dutch National Ballet, Solitaire, premiered. She provided the choreography for two cabaret performances, in 2003 for Over the top of NUHR under the direction of Han Römer and in 2004 for 5 easy pieces by the group of the same name under the direction of Ruut Weismann.
She choreographed the Argentine/Dutch co-production of the operita Maria de Buenes Aires by Astor Piazzola, directed by Wim Trompert, which will premiere in February 2004. In 2003 she founded the Fun Girl Collective together with Lonneke van Leth.
